  • Urinalysis without Micro: 81003

Specimen Requirements:

Type: Urine

Container/Tube: Clean plastic sample cup with securely fastened lid; or BD yellow-top urinalysis collection tube and BD gray-top culture tube filled to the appropriate fill level.

Sample Volume: 20 mL

Minimum Volume: 1 mL

Preparation:

  1. No preservatives.
  2. Refrigerate specimen after collection

Storage: Specimens will be stable for up to 24 hours at 2 – 8ºC

Unacceptable Conditions: Urine specimens left at room temperature for more than 2 hours will be rejected.

Specimen Retention Time: 5 days

Use:

A routine urinalysis is composed of a series of physical, chemical and microscopic screening tests, which are capable of detecting a variety of renal, urinary tract and systemic diseases.

Methodology:

Semi-automated urine chemistry analyzer that measures color change by reflectance photometry.

Reported:

Within 24 hours

Performed:

Monday - Friday

Interpretation Data:

Color, appearance, specific gravity, pH, protein, glucose, ketones, occult blood, leukocyte esterase, nitrite, bilirubin, and urobilinogen are performed on all routine urinalysis ordered. If protein, leukocyte esterase, occult blood, and nitrites are all negative, microscopic examination is not performed; just the above parameters are reported.

A microscopic exam will be reflexed if any of the following are positive: protein, blood, leukocyte esterase or nitrite.
A culture will be reflexed based on the following criteria: Leukocyte esterase positive or nitrite positive or WBC >5
